Two Unusual Items Of Art Deco Furniture

We are always on the lookout for unusual pieces of Art Deco furniture and the two items we are featuring today are certainly that. 

Both pieces are skillfully made from the most beautiful "birds eye" maple and are truly lovely to look at. This attractiveness is not simply due to the maker's choice of fine timber however, the real pièce de résistance is the unique cantilevered design that really catches the eye with its lovely curves - so typical of the Art Deco movement.

First of all, please take a look at this Double Sided Art Deco Style Cabinet Side Table:

Birds Eye Maple Art Deco Cabinet

This superb Art Deco cabinet is petite and suitable for use in even the smallest home measuring as it does just
2ft 1inch in height, (64cm) x 3ft 2inches in width, (96cm). The item is 2ft, or 60cm, deep.

One of the most attractive features is the design of the delightful drawers which appear on both sides of the cabinet, (i.e there are 8 drawers, 4 on each side).

If you like the look of that item, then meet its big brother, a somewhat taller version, as shown in the following photograph:

Art Deco Birds Eye Maple Cabinet

This cabinet stands a little taller at 3ft 3inches (98cm) and is the same width as the smaller model, at 3ft 2inches. There isn't quite so much surface space however, the shelves being only 1ft 2inches or 35cm deep. This time, there are only four drawers.

An Antique Art Deco Walnut Serving Trolley dating from around 1920

This time we are featuring this Antique Art Deco Walnut Serving Trolley which dates from around 1920.

Please note the typical Art-Deco styling of this piece which has been fully restored in our workshop and is offered for sale at just £775. This lovely trolley can be seen in our north London showroom along with many other items of Art Deco furniture.

Take a look at this very fine, antique Art Deco burr walnut dining set comprising a of 5' 6" wide dining table complete with a matching set of six dining chairs all dating from around 1920 when Art Deco was in the early years of its development.

The twin supporting pedestals are very substantial and give a very solid feel to this table which seats six people in comfort. The table measures as follows:

Height 2 feet, 6 inches x Width 5 feet, 6 inches x Depth 3 feet, 0 inches

or, in centimetres:

Height 76cm x Width 168cm x Depth 92cm

Of particular note in this example is the striking Burr Walnut grain to the surfaces of this table, more detail for which can be seen here:

A dining table is of little use without chairs and this dining set certainly does not disappoint in that respect. It comprises of six chairs, all having been skilfully re-upholstered in white leather with red piping.
The chairs measure:

Height 2 feet, 9 inches x Width 1 foot, 7 inches x Depth 1 foot, 10 inches

or in centimetres if you prefer:

Height 85cm x Width 48cm x Depth 55cm
